J.K. Rowling and the Power of Imagination

The most excellent power every writer has is to move masses through their words. Think about it, a writer is a man or a woman who’s not in close contact with their vast audience, and yet they have the power to influence their lives by writing down what they imagine.

Many writers have managed to do a lot with their texts and their books, and arguably one of the most influential writers of the modern age is J.K. Rowling.

Yes, she earned a lot of money and popularity with her stories, and yes the magical world she created has become a massive part of modern pop culture, but there’s more to it than that.

We feel that her real success is in the positive influence she made on millions of children across the globe and how happy she has made them – the children who grew up to do a lot of different things in their life. Many of them did great things, many of them became great thought leaders, and many of them are yet to leave a mark on the world – and they all were, to an extent, influenced by the words of J.K. Rowling.

There’s nothing more powerful than that.

We All Carry Great Power

However, despite definitely being aware of the influence she has and the power her imagination has – J.K. Rowling is not someone who doesn’t believe in others. Her even bigger power can be seen in her words and her deeds.

She once said: “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.” The magic she invented through her books is something that many would want to possess, as many feel powerless against all the bad that exists in the world. But J.K. Rowling knows that none of us need magic, the imagination we already have is all the magic we will ever need. She certainly has proved that those words are valid through her example.

The power of her imagination also lies in the fact that her books are already timeless. The Harry Potter series may be mostly for children, and the book’s age as the children reading them do, but these books are still for everyone. Many of us didn’t read the books when we were kids, we read them way up in our adult lives. They even influence us immensely.

That can also be seen in her newer books and their popularity – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is merely a play and yet it’s already as loved as the original series. People cannot get enough of Harry Potter and the magical world he lives in.

That’s how real the power of imagination truly is.

“Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and, therefore, the foundation of all invention and innovation. In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared.” – J.K. Rowling

Do you believe in what she says? Do you feel that each of us has the power to empathize with others and help humanity?

If you do, you should join us at the next World Happiness Agora where we’ll talk about how we all can work towards the betterment of humanity and how we can reach an era where every human being is happy.
