Well-Being Interventions Improve Societies

People place considerable emphasis on the feeling of happiness, and it can thus serve as a significant motive for decisions in education, travel, recreation, profession, health, and charity.

This impulse we all have that makes us seek a happier and more rewarding life echoes in the role of government. Many of the areas of life governments look to improve have arisen because they influence our overall happiness and well-being.

However, well-being has not been a direct concern until relatively recently. Now there is already a wide variety of focused interventions and broad multi-component interventions that that aim to raise well-being. Plus, there has been a lot of research that supports their effectiveness.

It thoroughly is described in the 2019 Global Happiness and Wellbeing Policy Report.

Directions for Further Action

With many interventions in existence and governments already trying to focus more on improving the well-being of their citizens, there are a couple of primary and essential directions that need to be taken into account when looking to continue the effort.

  • Dissemination and attention.

The task of policymakers and other stakeholders is to promote and disseminate such well-being interventions. Aside from the commitment to the long-term well-being of citizens, it should also include collaboration across government functions and private partnerships.

  • One size doesn’t fit all.

Most of the research done on treatments for mental illness has given us a significant insight which shows that specific therapies are beneficial for particular problems, but not for others. It is thus encouraged for governments to modify the well-being interventions which were proven to be effective, to fit the culture and individuals in that country. The future of well-being interventions is very likely to see a proliferation of treatments which will become highly specific and targeted toward individuals and groups, all of who have particular needs.

  • Commitment to tracking and research.

Continued research on well-being interventions is an utter necessity. It means that interventions need to be contrasted and tested against each other, all the while taking into account specific needs and populations.

Conclusions

In the end, it should be noted that well-being interventions are a valuable pursuit for nations and societies. They can be delivered effectively with the help of digital media, which makes them less costly and very easy to give to people at large.

The global happiness and wellbeing report discuss programs like Enhance and Blue Zones, both of which have proven their effectiveness in raising health and well-being by impressive amounts. They indicate that such interventions can be used as a highly effective method of improving the quality of life.

Governments that aim to implement such programs should feel assured that they will gain a whole host of benefits like cost saving in the healthcare and justice sections, as well as improved overall performance in schools and at work. However, in the end, the most important benefit is the increase in happiness levels among the citizens – an advantage which should be enough of a reason for well-being interventions than any other.
